Dr. Dacia Hewitt, my boss, my friend, my confidant. You were an amazing woman. Those telephone calls that lasted for hours, I won’t get them again. I was waiting on that call to say hello Dr Hewitt but it never came. Words can’t express how I feel but I will always remember that glowing smile, that strong woman who was a dedicated nurse who fought for us at the drop of a dime, that family bond you had and shared it with me. Always classy!!!! Dacia, I will not say good bye. Till we meet again and hear you say those words “all is well man, all is well” later sistah. Rest in paradise my friend🕊️❤️🕊️💐

You always looked out for my little brother and I. Always making sure I was being careful and responsible. Although I may not have understood why at the time, you held me accountable and to a high standard. I know now that you saw something in me that I truly didn’t even see in myself. You always reminded me to use my intellect and to behave honorably and respectably at all times. Here I am now, a husband, a father, a man of stoicism. I thank you for your hand in my growth and for all you’ve given unconditionally. Love always from one of your neighborhood sons.
— Vince Carter
We are all family in this building, she was a mother to all of us. We all loved her and will miss her deeply. I never noticed it until I got older but she kept all of us out of trouble with the program that she would have on the weekends. I have many memories with her and I will never ever forget her.
— Musa Sarr
Miss Hewitt. My friend, the best person in my life. I am so sad but God knows best. I will always love you.

37 years ago, we ventured unto the campus of Bellevue School of Nursing “Batch 9” located on Winward Road in Kingston Jamaica. Most of us came from the country areas. We were young, green and inexperienced. We had one goal. To become a Nurse. You were the designated Lawyer, Advisor and one of the funniest in the group. You had a way to put your words with sheer brilliance and knew exactly how to bring your point across. Those years would mold us into becoming some of the hardest, most dedicated nurses. We kept in touch through the years and in 2022 we created this What’s App Chat Group in preparation for our reunion. Unfortunately, you were not able to attend but you ensured that your contribution was received to purchase the much-needed medical supplies for Bellevue Hospital and you kept in touch with us daily with your humorous comments and laughter. You will be missed. To your family and friends, we mourn with you. May God give you eternal rest and may your soul Rest in Peace.

In loving memory of Professor Dacia Hewitt, my incredible Mental Health and Gerontology professor. She was a beacon of energy and style, with a spunk that brightened our days. We all looked forward to her infamous model walk every morning, a true reflection of her vibrant spirit and unmatched fashion sense. Professor Hewitt wasn’t just an educator; she was a source of endless encouragement and warmth, always full of life and stories that captivated us. Her love for her students was evident, and we cherished the bond we shared with her. She often spoke with pride about her son and grandchildren, especially her oldest granddaughter, sharing those moments with us as if we were part of her family. Though she may no longer be with us, her legacy and the impact she made on our lives will never be forgotten. We pray that her soul rests in perfect peace. Professor Hewitt, you are gone but will always be remembered with love and gratitude 🕊️🩷

Miss Hewitt as we lovingly address her. She is more than a coworker, colleague, friend but more of a second family, our mom. For three years as my supervisor in 8B, she opens the gate for my self discovery as a nurse. She gave me this opportunity to become not only a better nurse but a better person. She has her own way of reprimanding us in a philosophical way which later on we would realized she is pointing what we need to improve on as a nurse and a person. Not every leader can do that with respect and consideration of our feelings.. Only Ms Hewitt. No matter how hardheaded we are, she never lost her temper with us except when she caught us hoarding PPE supplies during the height of Covid… I could never forget her look of disappointment and dismay when she opened that shower room in our unit.. that was the first time I heard her scream with poise to us. We all hurriedly emptied the shower. We realized we cannot keep our Mother angry. She had done a lot for us during Covid especially. She even sat at the nurse station answering calls and taking reports for admission so we can quickly eat lunch. Not all Supervisors do that… when she retired, I felt robbed. But she told me to keep going even though she is no longer there to guide us. We kept in touch. Our friendship continues. We miss her and the more we appreciated her. We all gained an angel today. Dr. Hewitt you will be my forever BOSS.
— Fedielin Mejia
Dr Hewitt was my professor at AMG College of Nursing. Dr Hewitt impacted me by helping me to focus and push forward during a difficult time. Her ability to deliver the lesson in relatable yet retainable way allowed me to pass her courses. Her bluntness and sharp wit kept my attention and I just knew not to try her or else. She pinned me an LPN on pinning day and it was everything!!!! May she rest in paradise. Gone way too soon but won’t be forgotten.
— Erica Joseph

Professor Hewitt, as she’s known by everyone was my professor for mental health. She’s known as my honey, that’s how she was greeted whenever we saw each other. She was such a beautiful, graceful woman, always well spoken, and well dressed. I learned so much from her. Her memory will forever live on. My honey, my forever professor, may your transition to the other side be peaceful, may your beautiful soul rest in eternal peace. Thank you for the many lessons taught, all the memories, the stories and the laughs. You’d always be my forever honey!
— Rhoda Mitchell
Scott you told me amazing stories of your mom and her health concerns and how you wanted to give her food to help heal her.I didn’t get the chance your beautiful mom in person but I was able to prepare some nourishing meals for her and she loved them.while I wasn’t able to meet her in the physical I still felt her impact. I wish you and your family nothing but peace and love during this time.
— Ashley Johnson
Her children are good friends of mine. We grew up together. I moved to Pennsylvania and would come visit and she let me stay at their house a couple times during breaks from school. I just want to thank you for all the times you fed me and gave me pillow to lay my head. I love and appreciate you and you would be missed dearly.
— Franklin Paulus
Ms. Hewitt was an amazing woman who could light up any room that she entered. She was an extraordinary supervisor who took pride in making sure that her team was always prepared and able to exhibit incredible customer service and care to their patients. She will always be remembered and dearly missed by her Metropolitan team and staff. May she rest in perfect peace.
— Mavis Boateng
Dr. Hewitt was my ADN at metropolitan hospital. I was a new nurse when I started in 2019 and she welcomed me with open arms! I learned from her so many things. Always nice to be around her with her laugh and smile. Everyday came dressed for work like she belonged in a fashion show! We miss her very much at metropolitan and will always be remembered!
— Lynnette Gonzalez
I’m a former student of AMG and the beautiful Professor Hewitt. She was a wonderful professor who not only taught her students book knowledge, but she taught life lessons. Professor Hewitt always spoke about her family and encouraged her students to never quit, to never give up and to always be proud of who we were. She was a gem, a true woman of God and inspired us all. Rest In Eternal Peace Professor Hewitt, you will be missed terribly.

Dacia and I attended Bellevue School of Nursing from April 30,1984-May 3,1987. We are all part of the infamous Batch 9 or Niners as we call ourselves. I always remembered Dacia as this tall, slim, elegant student who would have you cracking up while maintaining a serious face. Who can forget her joke of the person reading the Bible “The Lord plagoo Pharoo (the Lord plague Pharoah)” or the young lady who was trying to speak properly “Postmistress, can I borrow your DI-REC-TORIE?” While planning our reunion I had a chance to visit NY and a few of us got together and had dinner at The Door. Never dreamed that would be it as we were looking forward to seeing her at the reunion. Now we know she never made it because she was ill. She called me Ambassador I called her Pastor. RIP Pastor Hewitt- Gone but not forgotten #NinerforLife
— Asneth Thomas-Rowe
